Detail : Bound Buffalo for Chicago, she was struck nearly amidships by the
schooner DEFIANCE on a dark night [one source says foggy] and cut almost in half. Both vessels sank quickly. A newspaper clipping gives the location as 15 miles below Pte Aux Barques.
